A basic history of the Anglia Hornets
About 1992ish - The Anglia Leg-ends are born
Back around 1992 a few friends who all played Hockey at Anglia Polytechnic decided to start up a hockey team and to give it a proper identity. Over the years the membership changed drastically but each year certain 'key' people have continued the traditions and kept the team ticking over.
July 1999 - Old Name Partially Retired
Around mid-1999, virtually everyone to do with the 'old' Leg-ends team had moved on elsewhere and wished to take their name with them. This meant that there was a need to come up with a new identity for the university side. It was agreed for a new image to be launched for the University team and until such time as one was found both teams continued use the Leg-ends name.
January 2000 - New Identity Launched
After a few months a name - 'The Hornets' - was decided upon and it was launched formally at the first social of the year. Team colours, rather unsuprisingly, were chosen as yellow & black.
Easter 2000 - Inaugral Tour
The team's first 'Official' competiton - the Bournemouth Easter Festival.
The future - Two Teams!!!
From July 2000 there have been two teams. The University will continue to be called the Hornets and those leaving will form a veterans and invitational team also called Anglia Hornets. Membership will be available to anyone who wishes to play regardless of previous involvement with the uni team. The idea behind the team has always been to have fun with friends and to enjoy playing hockey... long may it last!
Five years later...
The hornets are still going strong and have competed at over 15 tours & tournaments.
