Sunday 25-Mar-07Mens 1s face playoffs...
Despite winning their encounter 5-1 the Mens 1s will have to complete in the relegation playoffs to secure survival in their division as all the other results went against them on Saturday. The Womens 1s had a rest week prior to their League & Cup double header next weekend.
The remaining mens teams in action saw all the league fixtures completed for the 06/07 season - in a bit of a lacklustre afternoon both the Diamonds & the Royals capitulated to their opposition. The Tornados were involved in a friendly against Alleyns Old Boys that ended all square after 70mins.
In the Womens section both the 2s & 3s managed good wins in their league encounters while the 4s & 5s both lost.
Sunday's matches saw the Dragons complete their last fixture with a 4-4 draw against the Optimists and the Womens 2s drew against Old Cranleighans in a re-arranged league fixture. |

Saturday 17-Mar-07Almost there...
It's nearly time to hang up the sticks for another summer - unless you tour - as the regular season for the leagues is almost over.
The Mens 2s finished the season on a high with a 6-3 win over St Albans away, whereas the Tornados slipped up in their final league match but their play-off place was already secure. The Womans 1s win again and are just 2 goals away from the top of the table and promotion. There were also wins for the 3s, 4s & 5s.
Other men's results saw the Diamonds record yet another walkover and the 3s, yet another draw. Bad news for the 1s who have to win next week to avoid a relegation play-off. The Royals lost their encounter with Reading.
The remaining women's results saw losses for both the 2s and the 6s.
Sunday saw the Dragons lose out in round three of the HA Trophy in fen country against the webfooted but extremely talented Harleston Magpies. |

Sunday 11-Mar-07Key wins set up success...
Three wins and one loss set the platform for this season's success. The Womens 1s won again and are still only split from top of the table and a promotion on goals scored. The Tornados won to secure their place in the play-offs, the Mens 1s thrashed their oppo 11-1 and have now almost staved off the prospect of relegation. Plus despite the Diamonds losing other results in their division make relegation for them a mathematical impossibility.
Other results in the Men's section saw losses for the remaining three teams. Both the 3s & the Royals were on the wrong side of a 1-0, whereas the 2s took a real thumoing from Surbiton.
The Women's section saw slightly better results with draws for both the 4s & 5s. Unfortunately, the 2s, 3s & 6s all lost.
Sunday saw the Dragons match cancelled, but the Womens 1s won their Trophy Quarter-Final match on penalty flicks 3-0. |

Sunday 04-Mar-07Team 5 show the way...
In a torrid weekend of results there are still a few highlights. Team Five are ending the season on a roll with back to back wins in the last two weeks and the Womens 1s - after relinquishing first place in the league last week - have closed the gap on the league leaders and as both points and goal difference are the same only goals scored seperate them. The other highlight is a rare win for the Diamonds which goes a long way to securing their place in the league after last year's promotion.
Apart from those results - a hard fought draw for the Mens 1s and a rest week for the Royals - the remainder of the club lost. Not happy reading for the results books but there are other positives from this weekend... for instance despite losing the Tornados are still on track to secure 3rd spot and enter the play-offs.

Sunday 25-Feb-07And what do points make...
...well technically prizes and in this case it could mean promotion or play-offs. A massive amount of wins for the club saw fortunes on the increase for a number of teams and even the few draws were things to be celebrated.
Two wins, two draws & two losses is how the Men's section fared this weekend. The wins helped the 1s get out of the relegation mire and the Tornados increase their stranglehold on a play-off place. The draws saw battling performances from both the 2s & 3s against very well organised opposition. However, the losses for both the Diamonds and Royals means they are both hovering in the bottom part of the respective divisions.
A massive haul of wins for the women's section saw the only points dropped by the 4s in their away draw. Desite winning the 1s lost their top spot to Hampstead & Westminster on goal difference. Elsewhere the win for the 2s saw them creep within seven points of the top spot with still three games in hand! Wins for the 3s, 5s & 6s saw valuable points put on the board to stave off threat of relegation.
After last week's heroics in the HA Trophy the Dragons take a well earned week off. |
